Sleeping Bags For All Weather And Climates
Sleeping bags are one of first items any camper will think about, whether they are spending a few days on a camp site as part of a summer holiday or hiking over the world’s toughest terrain. And, as befits an item which is used by such an array of people, there are many different types and qualities of sleeping bag. The sleeping bag can make or break your chance of a good night’s sleep – and if you are awake half the night, you cannot expect to function fully the next day, whether it is an arduous climb or a day spent sightseeing in the nearest town.
The basic type of sleeping bag, and one which should suffice for the occasional camper, is essentially a blanket folded in half and zipped on three sides. Although even within this basic category you can find different thicknesses and quality; which one you buy depends on how often you will use it and how comfortable you want to be. Don’t forget a sleeping mat too – after all, this is going to make up what is essentially your bed for the whole time you are camping so you want to make it as homely as possible without adding too much bulk to what you have to carry.
A great thing about these basic sleeping bags is their cost - and the fact that for families they are ideal. A camping holiday can be the perfect holiday for a family, and with a huge range of characters, patterns and colours on Kids Sleeping bags, the children are bound to actually look forward to getting into them.
If you are travelling in a car, the size of a sleeping bag will not be too important. But if you are backpacking and having to carry everything yourself, weight is going to be a major factor, and a mummy bag, or something of its ilk, which can just be stuffed into its bag when not being used, is incredibly useful. These bags take up very little space, and are lightweight while being thick enough to keep the occupant warm. And mummy bags, which come with a special section to fit around the head, are even better at keeping in heat, fitted with a drawstring to pull it close.
The outer material of your sleeping bag will be pone of the most important choices you make. A waterproof bag is essential wherever you are going. You can never rely on the weather and if your bag gets wet, with you in it or without, you need to make sure it is not going to spread to the inside. Obviously polyester and nylon are some of the best fabrics for being waterproof, but they are also warm too. This is not always a good thing however. If you are planning on camping where the weather is hot, being inside a nylon bag inside a nylon tent is not going to make for a pleasant night – tents don’t have aircon!
Insulation should also be taken into account – again with the weather primarily at the front of the buyer’s mind.
Whichever sleeping bag you choose, don’t assumed it will be the perfect bag for all conditions. If you are going on wildly differing trips, you will need to have more than one Sleeping Bag.
